My Teaching Journey!
My journey this year as a Teacher Candidate in the U.B.C. Education program has been a wonderful experience! I have learned so much about myself and the teaching profession and I look forward to my continued journey as a life-long learner.
My metaphor for this year is that you must work hard to reach the summit and overcome your fears, test your limits, use your strengths, and strive to improve your weaknesses. Change and growth are important stages along the way and should be embraced.
"It is not the mountain we conquer, but ourselves" (Sir Edmund Hillary).
I believe this to be an important philosophy as a teacher and concept to instill in our students. It is up to the individual to make the changes necessary in order to succeed. Support from family, friends, and teachers may be needed but you have to intrinsically want to conquer your goals and succeed. Climbing that mountain will not be easy but the reward at the end will be worth all the effort!
Teaching is about supporting your students' learning needs by making meaningful connections and strong relationships with them. Once you have a trusting relationship established with your students,
Beautiful Boundary Bay and Mt. Baker! teaching and learning will transcend. Differentiated instructional practices will be realized as individual
learning needs are better understood through teacher-student relationships and discussion of
students' goals. I believe it is important to learn as much as you can from each other as collaboration is an important aspect of education. I have learned so much from my professors, School Associates, Faculty Adviser, colleagues, friends, and my students throughout this year that I am so grateful for! I am eager to continue to learn and grow within this profession this year and for many years to come!
